The Department of Chemistry, Ekamra College, is a basic science department established in the year 2000. The B.Sc Chemistry (Pass) course with an intake of 64 students started from the academic session 2000-2001. A three-year degree course, B.Sc Chemistry (Hons), was introduced in the academic session 2013-2014 with a sanctioned strength of 08. This was increased to 16 in 2016-2017 and then to 24 in 2018-2019.
Presently, the department has one regular teaching faculty, two guest faculties, one laboratory assistant, and one laboratory attendant, all of whom are committed to enriching the teaching and experimental atmosphere of the department.
VISION: To be a center of study where each student can get access to higher education and research in the field of Chemical Science.
MISSION: To provide high-quality education and practical training in chemistry, promoting academic excellence and research.

INFRASTRUCTURE, FACILITIES AND TEACHING LEARNING PROCESS:
(i) The department has one spacious and well-ventilated lecture hall and one laboratory with proper storage facilities, LPG gas connection, water, and electricity connection.
(ii) The laboratory is well equipped with various instruments like UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Magnetic Stirrer, Chemical Balance, Desiccator, Potentiometer, Copper Calorimeter, Kipp’s Apparatus, Digital Melting Point Apparatus, Digital Conductometer, Hot Air Oven, Digital pH Meter, Refrigerator, Digital Top Pan Balance, Stalagmometer, and all necessary chemicals and glassware to provide high-quality teaching and experimentation facilities to the students.
(iii) A good collection of books and journals is available in the seminar library.

SEMINARS/WORKSHOPS/LABORATORY VISIT:
1. Regular field trips and excursions are conducted to various laboratories like CIPET, IMMT, Institute of Physics, and chemical industries.
2. Regular seminars and workshops are organized.
3. On 25.11.2024, song, dance, painting, and quiz competitions were organized on the eve of Constitution Day.
4. On 28.02.2025, National Science Day was observed.
5. On 18.03.2025, a one-day seminar on Multifunctional Materials was organized.
