The Department of Education at Ekamra College, Bhubaneswar embarked on its illustrious journey in 1978 with a steadfast commitment to empowering students through an enriching academic experience. Initially introduced as a pass course, the subject later evolved into an Honours program in the academic session of 2010-11, with a sanctioned intake of 48 seats at the undergraduate (UG) level. The Honors program in Education aims to build a strong foundation in educational theory, pedagogy, and practical teaching experience. With an emphasis on both theoretical and practical knowledge, the curriculum prepares students to engage effectively in diverse educational settings while fostering a deep understanding of the sociocultural, psychological, and philosophical aspects of education. Supported by a team of highly qualified and dedicated teaching group—comprising three regular faculty members and one demonstrator—along with a vibrant student community, the department continues to offer a comprehensive UG programme providing curious young minds and aspiring educators with the knowledge, skills, and values essential for their personal and professional growth. The department envisions empowering students with wisdom, skills, ethics, and values, enabling them to become effective educators with dignified personalities. Its mission is to provide a learner-centered environment that fosters critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and collaborative learning. The department offers an undergraduate program focused on holistic development and pedagogical excellence, featuring well-ventilated, spacious classrooms equipped with modern ICT-based teaching and learning resources. Since 2015, the department has been offering a three-year degree program under the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS), encouraging students to explore their potential, develop leadership qualities, and make meaningful contributions to society. In line with the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the department now provides a flexible 3/4-year course structure, incorporating Major, Minor, Multidisciplinary Courses (MDC), Value-Added Learning Components (VLC), and more.
Teaching Learning Process
Our curriculum is designed to cater to the needs of the modern education system by blending traditional teaching methods with contemporary approaches. This ensures that students are well-prepared to navigate the evolving landscape of education. Regular workshops, seminars, study tours, and field visits enrich the academic experience, providing valuable practical exposure. The teaching-learning process integrates a variety of methods, including lectures, debates, discussions, demonstrations, seminars, and hands-on field experiences through project work. A team of experienced faculty members facilitates these activities to enhance student engagement. Special attention is given to students based on their learning needs. Remedial measures are implemented to support slow learners, while accelerated programs cater to high-achieving students, ensuring that every learner progresses at their own pace. Additionally, students are actively involved in research-oriented activities through various project-based assignments. The department also houses a dedicated seminar library with a collection of approximately 300 textbooks and reference books, catering to the academic needs of students.
