About the Department
The Department of English at Ekamra College has been a cornerstone of academic excellence, fostering a deep appreciation for literature, language, and critical thinking. English as a Pass paper was introduced in the academic session 1980-81. As an honors paper, it was introduced in the academic session 2016-2017, with a sanctioned strength of 8 seats. With a dedicated teaching group comprising 4 regular faculty members and 1 guest faculty member, along with a vibrant student community, the department continues to inspire young minds to explore the richness of English studies.

Courses Offered
BA (English)
A three-year undergraduate program following the CBCS syllabus for UG students of English (Hons) and NEP-2020 syllabus for UG students of English (Majors) is provided by the Department of English.
Infrastructure and Facilities
The department is equipped with modern infrastructure to facilitate a conducive learning environment. Key features include a spacious and well-lit classroom with departmental library facilities and a well-equipped language lab. 09.09.2024-Seminar A seminar on "Post Colonial Perspectives in Modern Literature" was organized by the department. Students benefited from learn- ing about Post Colonial Literature to understand the lasting im- pact of colonialism, diverse perspectives and develop critical thinking skills, ultimately fostering a more nuanced and inclusive understanding of global history and culture. +3 final year students presented topic. The resource person's speech was highly appreciated by the students.
Quiz and Essay competitions were organized by the department on the special occasion of "Constitution Day". Students of the de- partment participated in the Competition enthusiastically.
On the very special occasion of "Constitution Day", Song and Rangoli Competitions were organized by the department. Stu- dents showed a lot of excitement in these competitions.
The department paid a visit to the Annual "State Book Fair" orga- nized in the Exhibition Ground of Bhubaneswar. Students were exposed to the variety of books different genres. All the students purchased books of their choice. They visited all the stalls of dif- ferent Publishers. The trip helped them to broaden their horizons in literature.
A seminar was organized by the department on the topic "Nature in Romantic Poetry". Students participated and presented papers. This was followed by a highly commendable speech of the re- source person, Prof. Girija Kanta Dash, BJB (Jr) college and speeches other faculty members. All the students immensely ben- efitted from it
